This photo is from the July 2019 issue of AY magazine, showing the incredible work of interior designer Garry Mertins of Little Rock, Arkansas. I painted this large Napoleon portrait in 1998 using the Italian verdaccio technique. The clients are wonderful people to work with.
The July 2019 issue of AY magazine has a great article showing the incredible work of interior designer Garry Mertins of Little Rock, Arkansas. The large abstract I painted in the background is seven feet by fourteen feet and is an experiment using mixed media. I met with the clients, showing them three small paintings painted as samples, before starting the project. Working with the clients was a great pleasure.
Here’s another photo from this month’s AY magazine. It’s Napoleon as King of Italy in 1805. I painted this in 1998 using the Italian verdaccio technique. It employs several layers of an Old Master formula of oil glazes that bring out the depth and luster of the painting.

Great Grandfather Major Alfred George Cunningham
A portrait of my great grandfather Major Alfred George Cunningham painted from a photograph taken in 1886 in the Klondike during the Gold Rush. A man of many talents, he was a journalist, yachtsman, merchant (owner of a general store in the Klondike), gold miner and government agent.

Allegory of Knowledge
4′ x 6′ plus frame
In this allegory of knowledge, the figure symbolizing wisdom is a powerful, kind and protective being of great awareness, symbolized by her steady gaze directed toward the heart on fire. She is unafraid of self-awareness, the true responsibility of each of us for our own actions, the knowing of possibilities and the positive and negative potentials of individuals. She is barefoot, i.e., grounded in the landscape of idyllic beauty surrounding her. Her voluptuousness and sensuality, combined with her luxurious garments, and the rich, restrained palette, create an enticingly beautiful scene.

Hi Patrick
I met you and Ann at a tag meeting several years ago when you demonstrated your impasto techniques. The last time we saw each other was a fundraiser on the Caddo river. My husband and I drove past your mural Venus of The Springs on a weekly basis and were in awe of the work. Love it!
Thanks so much, Sharon! I appreciate it!
